Brenda lives with her aunt, her aunts’s two children and one sibling. Her mother is dead and her father is very ill so that she has lived with her aunt for the last 6 years.
The family has lived in Jinja since 1995 when they moved her from Packwach because her uncle had work here.
Her aunt has a small garden of sugar cane, and has begun to run a small kiosk from which she sells edibles such as friend cassava and
mandazis, and groceries. She hopes to also buy a manual sewing machine one day. Brenda helps her family by cooking, washing dishes, fetching water and weeding the sugar cane.
Brenda likes school and is normally in the middle of her class grade-wise. She especially likes the sciences—chemistry, physics, and biology. She would like to be a nurse one day. In her free time, she spends her time doing additional studying and rolling beads. She hopes she can get a scientific calculator to help with her school work.
Annual sponsorship cost is $400 for secondary school fees, uniforms, and basic school supplies. The sponsorship amount can be paid annually, by term at $133 per term or monthly via credit card at $33 per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
