Giving Tuesday – Donate to Build a Fifth Classroom Building at our Northern Uganda School
On Giving Tuesday, November 29, 2016, online donations to Outreach Uganda’s projects on Global Giving will be matched at an unprecedented 50% match up to $1000 per donor per project by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation until the $500,000 pool of matching funds is used up. Outreach Uganda’s priority project for early 2017, is the construction of one additional classroom block so that our remaining two classes can move out of the dilapidated mud and thatch building.
Only donations made on Global Giving will be matched. The Quick Link to our project there is: www.goto.gg/25797
We hope to begin construction as soon as January 2017 if we have raised at least $7500 in funding (a total of $15,000 is needed to complete everything including the furnishings). This new building will contain two classrooms as well as a smaller office space between the two classrooms. This means are 100 students in kindergarten and the youngest nursery class would finally have a much better and safer learning environment. Their current classroom has bare dirt floors, no doors and a very leaky roof. Because it is not lockable, only plastic chairs and a small portable blackboard can be used in these classrooms.
Added Benefit That Will Help Keep Girls in School
In the middle smaller office between the two classrooms, we plan to utilize the extra space for our 6th grade girls who would like to board at the school so they can have more time to study in the evenings besides not being overworked at their homes. This middle area should provide enough space for 15 to 20 girls to have a dedicated sleeping area at the school.
