Aloyo Margaret and other members of the Kitgum beaders’ group proudly show Outreach Uganda president, Carol Davis, their new 4 acre garden where they are growing cash crops as a group income-generation project. The group planted 2 acres of sim sim interspersed with some sunflowers plus 2 acres of ground nuts (similar to peanuts) about 6 kilometers from where they live.
They expect to harvest the crops in November and January. The enterprising 40 member group walks the entire 6 km distance (one way) to their garden twice each week to weed it. They hope to expand their farming operations in 2013.
