Anena Scovia has a mother and is the 2nd child out of five children. Her father was a government soldier but was killed in 2009. Her mother was traumatized and did not want to pay any school fees for her children. Anena went to live with an aunt in Agwata who supports her in her educational efforts.
Anena’s aunt is a peasant farmer. Anena helps her aunt by fetching water and cooking food. She was the third best performing girl in her sixth grade class which had 20 girls. Besides academics, she is good at athletics especially in cross country, and the 400 meter and 100 meter races. In her free time, she plays board games.
Anena is excited about advancing to 7th grade (called Secondary 1 in Uganda) because she feels her dream of becoming a Nurse will be achieved so that she can help out her other siblings who are not yet back in school. She is a shy girl but very disciplined and hard working.
Annual sponsorship cost is $650. Anena needs either one sponsor to pay the full cost or two sponsors to share the cost at $325 each for secondary school fees, some supplies and other sponsorship benefits. This amount can be paid annually, by term at $217 ($108) per term, or via monthly credit card payment of $55 ($27) per month. Additional optional amounts up to $300 total may be contributed during the calendar year as a special family gift.
