New Serger Machine for our Jinja Office
Our new sewing room in Jinja is now up and running, and it’s making a big difference! With the addition of a used serger machine, our artisans are expanding their skills so they can provide an even wider range of beautiful products for you. Working with an electric machine is new to most of the ladies. They are used to sewing on manual, non-electric machines that are powered by hand!
Under Sharon’s, our Women’s and Education Coordinator’s, guidance we’re training more of our artisans to use both manual and electric machines to create unique, handcrafted items that we can’t wait for you to see. Some of our ladies now know how to make reusable sanitary pad kits that are used in our northern Uganda location. In addition, some of the Jinja ladies can also serge unpaper towels. These towels can be used in the U.S. instead of disposable paper towels which are not environmentally friendly.
