Support Our 2026 and 2027 Priorities:

1. Scholarships for Vocational and University Students: $10,000 needed

Since 2020, our school population has grown from 500 to 800 students. And our Girls’ Education Initiative program has been extremely successful at keeping more girls in school and excelling at an above average level. While this is great, it means we have very successful sponsored students completing 10^th and 12^th grade who want to enter vocational or university programs in order to gain a skill that will enable them to earn a living. Many sponsors are unable to afford to increase their sponsorship to cover these higher fees. Providing scholarships is an important way to make sure no student is left stranded with only partial or no funding forcing them to drop out prematurely.

2. Boarding Program for Agwata School 6th Graders

• • Food for 25 Boarding Girls: $1,750 needed: Covers one term (3 months) of meals for 25 sixth-grade boarding girls, a need that returns every term. $70 feeds one girl for a full term. It is a key part of our Girls’ Education Initiative, which helps keep more than 150 girls in northern Uganda in school.
  • Upgrading of Boarding Facilities to Comply with New Safety Regulations: $3,500 needed: Makes the most important changes required by new government rules (mid-2024) to keep our boarding students safe.
  • A Dedicated Boarding Building: $24,000 needed: Right now, our boarding girls and boys sleep in former classrooms. This has pushed classes into temporary, makeshift structures. A real boarding building returns those rooms to learning and provides more secure appropriate space for boarders.

3. Malaria Treatment Medications: $4,000 Needed

The Agwata clinic provides critical health services for the many students who visit the clinic as well as parents, babies and the elderly that live in the five nearest villages. While we are able to fund the 3 nurses salaries at the clinic, we continue to need additional funding to provide malaria medications and test strips, and antibiotics to patients. With national health funding sharply reduced, these medicines are less available across Uganda.

4. Home Building Program for Jinja Women

• • Women’s Program Metal Storage Building: $7,000 needed: Help us build a small storage building for our women’s program. It will also house two women during the early stages of home construction starting later in 2027.
  • Water System Infrastructure/Piping: $12,000 needed: Help us build a sustainable water system for our home ownership project. We need funds for water storage tanks, tank piping, running water supply lines, and our first septic tank.
  • Electrical Connection for the Storage Building: $2,000 needed.

5. Updating Software, Hardware, Web Site: $4,000 Needed

Our U.S. based software needs are becoming more expensive as software companies are requiring ever more expensive annual renewals versus providing a software program that will last for several years. Even when we are able to purchase software at a discounted rate for nonprofits, our costs in this area continue to outpace the funds available. And each year we must also purchase additional hardware components to keep up with technology advances and required updates, and make sure our web site is updated.

6. Where Needed Most

Each year, we are faced with unexpected changes at the school, clinic and with our income-generation programs. Gifts with no designation or which say Where Needed Most allow us to be flexible as priorities change, new critical needs arise and the unexpected happens. As always, we spend your donations very prudently, knowing we have much work that needs to be done, and that spending wisely is the best way to accomplish more.
