Joel Ogenorwot lives in the village of Agwata in northern Uganda with his mother and father along with 4 siblings. His father makes a very small income as the pastor with a small church that meets in the school in Agwata. His father was injured and thus unable to farm. He sews uniforms for the school to earn extra income to take care of his family. Joel’s mother is in our women’s beading group.
Joel helps his parents around the household with fetching water, sweeping the compound and cooking. Beans are his favorite dish to prepare. He is also sent to the market to buy food for the family.
Joel’s favorite subject in school is English. He is hoping to become a pilot one day so that he may have the opportunity to visit other countries. He would also like to be able to earn enough income to support the needy families in his community. Joel likes to play football, hunt and roast potatoes with his friends in his free time. Joel is polite and disciplined. He is consistently one of the best students in his class and was recently ranked in the top 3 male students in his age group in the district.
The annual sponsorship for Joel is $700 to be split among 2 sponsors at $350 each which provides her tuition, room and board, uniform, basic school supplies and mentoring by OU staff. Joel has one sponsor, but desperately needs a 2nd sponsor! This amount can be paid annually, by term at $117, or via monthly credit card payment of $29 per month.
